Laser Hair Removal for Men

Many men nowadays find that permanent laser hair removal is the only way to remove unwanted chest, leg, back, and underarm hair. I met a friend of mine that admits to no longer shaving because it is tiresome, and would rather keep a beard fully grown. Although most of our clients are women there is an increase in men treating their back, chest, legs, nether regions, and underarms. It is a step forward for men’s preferences and hygiene.

Permanent Laser Hair Removal

Permanent laser hair removal is the most common cosmetic procedure in the world. We use high concentration laser beams for targeting the hair follicle and this permanently stops the growth process and destroys them. Lasers are used for whichever body part you would like to treat, and they target hairs without harming any skin. Another advantage is that laser is faster than electrolysis. Some small areas only take a minute, and larger ones can take up to 10 minutes. Total hair reduction comes in under six sessions.

How should I prepare for Treatment?

Please do not wax or pluck six weeks before the laser session. We need to target hair follicles which will disappear if you treat them yourself. Also limit exposure to the sun before or after procedure as skin does become more sensitive and can cause pigmentation.

Pre-Procedure

The hair should be a few millimeters long for a laser to target. If it is too long there is a chance of getting burned. You need to shave a few days in advance of the session for ideal hair length; a short stubble. You will wear safety goggles for eye protection and there is cooling technology to reduce risk of overheating and burning.

During Treatment

The doctor will use an appropriate level of laser strength based on your skin color, hair color, and thickness of hair. There is less energy used for darker skin. This procedure is repeated every month and you will notice less hair with each treatment. Only doctors will operate the laser machines.

IPL is not the same as Laser

Although an IPL machine can use a spectrum of wavelengths, they do not use a concentrated beam, so not all the wavelengths are effective for permanent removal. IPLs are commonly offered by beauty salons. They are also more prone for burning and not as effective, especially for deep thick hair.

Comparing

Lasers direct more heat than IPL and are safer for people with darker skin tones. Laser hair treatmenst are more expensive than the IPL treatments but require fewer sessions and offer better results.

Electrolysis Treatment

Electrolysis uses a small fine shaped needle electrode or metal probe inserted into every hair follicle to permanently destroy the root. This could take up to 30 sessions to permanently get rid of the hair and sessions take almost a half-hour. It also is more expensive as it is time-consuming and comes with a stinging sensation as each hair follicle is treated and some consider this unpleasant.
